The Family Radio Service, or often called FRS for short, is a unlicensed radio service in the UHF band. It is commonly used by groups needing an easy way to stay connected, they're cheap and easy to use. You may even see them used by security, or those running small fairs or festivals in some areas. FRS is also the go to radios for hunters and outdoorsman, which is why they can often be found in sporting goods stores and retailers specializing in outdoor equipment. When using FRS as your radio be mindful of the area where you want to use them. FRS is only allowed a 2 Watts output and cannot operate repeaters. They also do not allow the use of removable or external antennas. This means using them inside enclosed vehicles and structures may hinder their performance.
